Since 1 July 2011, the Parliamentary Ombudsmen have been tasked with ensuring that individuals deprived of their liberty are not subjected to inhumane treatment, as outlined in the OPCAT protocol.

The ombudsmen regularly inspect facilities where individuals are held, publish reports on these visits, and engage in international cooperation on human rights standards.
